Every May, Older Americans Month (OAM) is celebrated. It is a time to recognize older Americans' contributions, highlight aging trends, and reaffirm commitments to serving the older adults in our communities. All of us at At Home Senior Care love this time of year because seniors are amazing!
Seniors serve our community daily as volunteers, employees, employers, parents, grandparents, mentors, and advocates. They offer their time, talents, and experience to benefit all.
This year, OAM's theme is Powered by Connection, which recognizes the profound impact that meaningful relationships and social connections have on our health and well-being — and connectedness's vital role in supporting independence and aging in place.
Throughout this month, the Administration for Community Living (ACL), and the aging services network (including AHSC) have been highlighting the importance of social health, promoting opportunities for older adults and communities to engage, and sharing stories and strategies that demonstrate the power of connection.
The in-home support services our skilled caregivers provide to local seniors and their families are necessary, important work that fills our community's needs. We know this to be true, but even more than that, the care work we do is the most fulfilling and rewarding form of employment any of us on Team AHSC have ever experienced.
Our senior clients offer a wealth of life experiences and appreciate good conversations and hysterical jokes. We learn from their stories and benefit from their sense of humor—these are the kinds of meaningful relationships upon which trusting friendships are built.
